And a bid was turned down from an English side... Process of elimination.

United aren't interested, Liverpool cannot afford him and already have Gerrard in that position, Chelsea just bought Deco for that role... That leaves us as the front-runners apparently, with Sp*rs and City the only other teams who can probably afford him. Saying that I reckon its bollocks, but thought I'd post it anyways

Agree with you. Couple of good games and he is a world beater.? Look at how he didn't play against Spain. Looked ordinary and lazy. He is not worth the price tag he has and I think he will go to Barca anyway.

It's more than two games... he did lead his team to win the UEFA Cup as well. Though I agree there is a lot of hype around him.

I'm not sure if all the hype is deserved, but he does have some skill and I think could do just fine in our squad as the CDM. It's not like we'll be counting on him for his playmaking ability -- that's what Cesc was born to do. We'd be getting him for his ability to hold down players on defense...which is exactly what we need.

Deni and Diaby seem a little too offensive minded for me. Song would work as CDM but unfortunately, AW sees him more of a CB. Gilbs 3 years ago would have been perfect.

Sorry Skis but Arshavin is as much of a central defensive midfielder as Bergkamp! He is a second striker and the only other position he could possibly play is on the wing with freedom a la Hleb. If he arrived he would be replacing Hleb as they are similar players.

Fine by me either way...Nasri goes to the center and Arshavin takes wing or dedicated CAM, as Hleb was in our modified 4-5-1.

Andrei Arshavin is almost certain to leave Zenit St Petersburg in the January transfer window, according to his agent.

The Russian playmaker was keen to secure a switch over the summer but Zenit fought hard to keep him.

The reigning Uefa Cup champions were not prepared to listen to offers that did not match their valuation, but they now appear to have agreed that Arshavin should find a new club.

"He will definitely move in January or the player and club will lose money," said agent Dennis Lachter.

"Zenit and Andrei understand that it is time for them to part from each other."

Arshavin has been linked with a number of clubs over the past few months, including Barcelona, T*****ham and Arsenal.
Connection

The 27-year-old made a recent trip to London but Lachter has denied reports that he visited both Arsenal and Sp*rs' training grounds.

"That is not true," he said.

"I was in London and he was there too, but the only reason he was there was to shoot an advert for a company he has a contract with.

"I was at the T*****ham training ground, but it looks like someone saw me there and made the connection - he's never been there, either to Arsenal or T*****ham."

Zenit's general director Maxim Mitrofanov encouraged Arsenal on Monday to make a £20million bid for Arshavin.

Rosicky isn't gonna be back this season at this rate...Arshavin and he play different positions, as it is. Rosicky is generally a winger, Arshavin is a CAM.
