Where I see the difference is this:
What Adams did was not within the context of football or the team. Barton beat up a TEAM MATE, as well as the cigar-in-the-eye incident. His other offense was outside the sport.
I am against drunk driving, of course, and think people should do time for a 2nd offense. But a footballer who behaves criminally within football should be out. Let him find himself in league 1 or 2. That would be enough of a second chance for me.
interesting points but bear in mind that fights go on all the time (i'm not condoning it) but then i remember the harston incident, surly that was worthy of a criminal charge? was hartson banned?....no was his contract terminated....no.
you say that a footballer who behaves badly in football should be out but those who behave outside the game should be left alone. how can that be right. remember woodgate's his offensive made barton look a saint (thats said tongue in cheek)and he has never paid the correct price
