during these time, when we are kind of short of DMC we would most likely be linked with every available DMC in the world atm. :s_dunno

it is really interesting to see how our team will shape up for the upcoming season... now with 2 in(ramsey, narsi) 3 out(flam, helb gilberto) i assume wenger would be working harder to bring in more player. we need more depth in our squad to compete in all competitions.

4 out...Jens has gone ot Stuttgart.

And you're leaving Vela off of the "in" list. Vela has had 3 seasons in Spain and has lit up defenses there. He can play wing or striker.

Vela was absolutely nasty in Spain and I loved watching him play. He made defenders look silly along the endline. I watched his highlights against Real (one of the very few teams that you really want to see players in Spain competing against to judge talent) and he was absolutely abusing the midfielders/defenders. I think he's going to get all the Carling Cup games, some FA starts and the occasional Premiership start. Assuming he does well, AW will probably play him more. He has to get adjusted to the English game and how physical it can be, but outside of that, I think he'll be great. Leading scorer in the last U-20 World Cup can't be a bad player...

haha i got to admit i forgot about Jens. because since he drop out of the first team early last season and with all his nonsense remarks he made i had already regard him as a non-arsenal player.

for vela i can't put him in the "in" because he is loaned out as a arsenal player. =) since 3 years ago he is a gunner. perhape i should add a "back" list specially for him. =) :s_drinks

I have to call him an "in" because he has never stepped foot on our pitches yet...the whole passport issue to the EU thing made sure of that.

So afaic, he hasn't been with us until now. :D

Gilberto completes transfer to Greek side Panathinaikos
Arsenal can confirm that Gilberto has joined Greek side Panathinaikos.

Gilberto (31), spent a total of six seasons with the Gunners, after joining in the summer of 2002 from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, and soon became a mainstay of the Club’s midfield.

During his time with Arsenal, Gilberto (full name Gilberto Aparecido da Silva) made a total of 244 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals and was an integral part of the ‘Invincibles’ squad which completed the entire 2003/04 Premier League campaign unbeaten.

In addition to his League Championship winner’s medal in 2004, the Brazilian also won the FA Cup twice — in 2003 and 2005 - and the Community Shield in 2002 and 2004. In fact, the 2002 Community Shield marked Gilberto’s first-team competitive debut, in which he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium.

Gilberto’s experience and personality have been great assets to the Club, and he stepped in as captain on numerous occasions, most notably during the 2006/07 season, when Thierry Henry was injured for a long spell.

On the international scene Gilberto has also experienced great success with Brazil. Being his country’s captain many times, the experienced midfielder played in every minute of Brazil’s victorious World Cup campaign in South Korea and Japan in 2002. With 70 international appearances to his name, Gilberto has also won the Confederations Cup in 2005 and the Copa America in 2007.

Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Gilberto for his huge contribution to the Club both on and off the pitch, and wish him the very best for the future.

confirmed departure of gilberto. that's a shame, was a very useful player between 2002-7. man of great quality and dignity. :s_howdy
Gilberto gets all sorts of articles on the main site and a 'personal tribute' but Hleb just got a few lines, says it all really

There is some nice stuff on arsenal dot com this morning about Gilberto. Nice tributes and well-deserved. Compare to the indifferent remarks about Hleb. Speaks volumes.

We were only waiting on Nasri to arrive to let Hleb go, imo.

With Gilberto...this one had really been coming since January when there were first reports of talks between Gilbs and AW. I'm sad to see him go, but I think we'll be OK moving forward without him. We have a glut of CMs anyway and are (hopefully) going to sign another one.

And he hasn't gone to a team that has a good potential to rival us, either.

Had he gone to Barca, I'd have been pissed...seems like we're forever linked to those Catalan asses...

I agree... really nice stuff written for Gilberto ... he was a very good professional and quietly did his job very well without any fuss.... As I said before would have loved for him to stay and provide his experience to our youngsters but that would have been too selfish on AW's part I guess...

ALL THE BEST Gilberto :s_thumbsup
