He was originally a CB in the first place, iirc.

I think he is sometimes too slow in the middle, at the moment. Eventually though I think he can do well there. He can certainly play both positions though.

No slower than Phillipe though :s_wink I like Song as a player. Really questioned the decision to sign him but I think Wenger has got a real coup with him. Really impressive at ACN and in the last few games of the season. His best game though for me was Blackburn away in Carling Cup.

Someone was mentioning that we don't have a utility guy who can play multiple positions...erm, hello, his name is Alex Song! :D

Alex Song can only play CB and CM. Same as Djourou... Flamini could play LB, RB, CM and on the wing.... thats a utility player.

Agree with that post Hleb, I don't mean Song is slow btw because its not really a problem, I meant on the ball he can be a bit too relaxed at times.

Yeah I see where your comin from F3, but i do think he will sort that issue out quickly. I just hope he comes back from the Olympics fit and well. Knowing our luck he will end up crocked or they will send his uncle Rigobert back by mistake! Another thing to point out......Olympics are for under 23 yr old footballers but they are allowed 2 over age players :s_scratchhead MAKE YOUR MINDS UP! :s_biggrin

Song could realistically play anywhere along the backline if absolutely necessary. He's of course most comfortable as a CB and a CDM to a lesser extent. I really highly value someone who can fill in on the defensive end and be a holding mid.

Fuck forgot about the Olympics. :s_mad Don't see the point tbh...

Skiis, I reckon Song would get slaughtered at full back. Not got the pace.

He's got decent enough pace...and this is why I said "in an emergency" he could play full-back. Yeah, not as well as Flam could do it, but it's at least better than putting the Aircraft Carrier there, ain't it?

The legendary "undisclosed" fee apparently though on the officials today they were saying he was a freebie. Either way signing a crock means we are still in the same position we were in at the start of the week. Come on Arsene, sign us one quality player with prem experience please!

think the striking force is ok at the moment, but big powerhouse midfielder a center half and goalie are still a must

On the bright side of this then, if the guy is free, it's a win-win situation. If he turns out to be a great midfielder, then we've pulled off a coup. If not, then there's next to no consequence other than a little bit of wages lost.
