...potentially make Gareth Barry disappear from the books at Villa park and then subsequently reappear on our books. Here's the story...

skysports.com wrote:
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted he will make one more signing this summer following the surprise arrival of Mikael Silvestre.

The French defender completed his move to Arsenal on Wednesday, although Gareth Barry's name continues to be linked with the club.

The England international had been expected to join Liverpool this summer, but with the clubs yet to agree a fee, The Gunners have been linked with a cheeky bid.

Although Wenger is refusing to publicly state Barry is on his wanted list he has hinted he is looking to make one more signing before the transfer window closes.

"I can surprise you sometimes, as I got one in whom you did not expect, and there still might be one more player coming in," he stated.

No names

"You know the position, but I cannot tell you much more. There is interest always (in players). I do not want to give you any names.

"But we are not in a desperate situation because we have [Alexandre] Song back from the Olympics, [Abou] Diaby does not look too far away and hopefully we can have good news from [Tomas] Rosicky in the next two weeks.

"We are not quite short, but one more body is possible."

When asked if Barry's ineligibility for the group stages of this season's UEFA Champions League had created a problem for Wenger, he replied: "Not really.

"I believe that once somebody cannot play for you in Europe it devalues the player for the season. It doesn't necessarily stop you from buying the player."

Really cannot see this signing happening, too expensive.

The fact that Barry's picture is on arsenal dot com this morning makes me think that we might just sign him. I don;t recall seeing a target's picture ever on that sight before - not until after the signing. Nasri's face didn't show until it was official, IIRC. Wenger is being extremely cagy about this, hinting that, because he is cup-tied, Barry's fee might drop.

AW never goes for targets which have been publicized in the media .. Nasri was publicized only after the deal was done in principle ... I dont recall a signing which the press linked us with and AW followed up on that .. especially none as high profile (for the English media) as Barry ... but you never know with this guy ... did you see the sly smile he had on yesterday in that interview ?? it was as if he enjoys getting the better of the journos ... he likes playing a cat n mouse game with them ..

I won't say he's done 'til it's September 1. Haha

He's pulled rabbits out of his hat on the last day of the window each of the last two or three years.

i would have said the keeper front here, because yet again almunia was running around like a headless chicken at one point, but the boss aint going to buy so im gonna leave that department now.....

strike force is as strong as its been for years same as defence, just short in the middle of the park

The probability of that one happening is insanely low...but he'd be a great buy, I agree.
